WHY THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING TO “AN APPLE A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY”

We have all heard the classic saying and, of course, we know that eating fruits and veggies is always a good choice. But why Apples so essential to add into your daily diet?

Well, turns out that apples support, drum roll please, gut health! They contain pectin, which is a type of fiber that acts as a prebiotic. Probiotics feed the good bacteria in your gut. Your small intestine does not absorb fiber. Instead, it is absorbed in the colon where it promotes the production of good bacteria. Because of this, it has been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, obesity and type 2 diabetes.

As we celebrate on our retreats, gut health can positively impact mental health. The gut and the brain are connected through the vagus nerve. The gut produces 90% of our serotonin (one of our happiness chemicals). Research has shown that with a healthy gut biome, symptoms associated with anxiety.

Apples also contain 6% of Potassium which has been shown to lower symptoms associated with anxiety!
